… or: How We Made the Best Mynewdesk Video Ever and Lived to Tell About It!
One of the most important and oft-recurring questions a marketer faces is how to package, present, and promote a company’s main features, values, and brand promises. Some companies have an easier time explaining exactly what it is they do, sell, and stand for. Others might have a more complicated product or service.
It seems Mynewsdesk falls in the latter category at times. Everyone at Mynewsdesk knows exactly who we are and what we do. But the people we meet are often not aware of the ins and outs of Mynewsdesk – at least not fully. Are we a press release site? Are we a news aggregator? Are we PR consultants? Are we journalists?
Well, yes… and no.
We are Mynewsdesk – but how do we communicate that effectively and easily? With the help of Open Communications (concept, script) and Pixl Family (production, editing), we created a 2-minute video depicting Mynewsdesk that we feel captures not only the features, benefits, and values we offer our users and clients, but it also captures our graphic profile exactly as we hoped.
So what to think of when creating an “about us”-type brand video?
- Professional production company or homemade recording on a mobile phone? There are advantages with both, but I think the end purpose of the video should decide that. You can, of course, end up with a bit of both. A solid digital camera, a stand, and good lighting can do wonders.
- Thinking of using voice-over narration? Get someone with a good clear voice! Also a good microphone is a must. Audio might just be more important than video.
- Use your own staff in the video. It’ll show your human side, even if your staff are “acting” as clients or users. Perhaps your CEO has a few words to say?
- Make sure to capture the essence of your brand, visually. Logos, color schemes, imagery, etc.
